Pears on Green, 20 x 16 inches, acrylic on wrapped canvas. |
When I paint with pastels, I always put the ones I have used back into the box so that I use a fresh palette for every painting. I do have favorite colors, though. Don't we all?
Painting in a different medium is good for me. I am reminded about color mixing and how to deal with values in paint. Each brand has a subtle difference in colors. One brand of alizaron crimson will be more opaque or darker than another brand. I tend to use the same palette, in oils and acrylics. I usually start out with white, a cool and warm of yellow, red and blue. I put out thalo yellow green, burnt umber and black, too. From those, you can mix most colors. So change is good and it helps me think and hopefully improve every painting. The present painting is my favorite and the next one is the masterpiece!

This is lovely, Jo! Great job on the pears and reflections!!
Thanks, Regina. You know I love pears. Had a little problem with all the "green" but ended up liking the painting. :)
