I went back to the Vietnam Memorial with Nicole, Briana and Max. I sketched a little with a Brush pen, fast but not easy. It is such a lovely place to sit in the quiet and contemplate. I also tried watercolor but will not post that!
Hummer at our feeder.

A night time visitor. Gene had taken his wine and coffee out and then I went to take mine out. It was pretty dark and I heard something in the corner on the rail and saw it was a raccoon. I went back for the camera, thinking it would be long gone. Well, not so.
I though the raccoon might be after our wine, but no, it then reached for the hummingbird feeder.
The modus operandi was to tip the feeder and lick the sugar water as it ran down its paw and forearm. What a stretch to reach up there? We measured this morning, it is about 42 inches.
The Angel Fire Resort built a new clubhouse and restaurant at the golf course. It is very nice and very expensive. We had a summer membership last year, but this year they don't have the pass and it would be close to $200 for us both to play. The way we play it is not worth it -- unless you divide the cost by number of strokes. Ha. We tried for dinner there night before last and they were having a private party. We went back last night and had dinner with our friends from San Antonio. It was good and pricey. It is not a place for us to eat every other day. :)

Be warned that bears are known for drinking hummingbird feeders too. My parents had one bite the feeder and drink the juice - leaving sticky paw prints as evidence. Sometimes the bears are so bad that the forest service people put out warnings about trash, food, and hummingbird feeders being left outside.
Bag Blog, thanks for the reminder. There were more warnings last year, guess with the rain they aren't coming into town as much. All trash bins/dumpsters here are locked for bears. It was hard enough running off the raccoon with the broom. Gene had to give him 4 or 5 hard swats to get him off the rail.
'Like the sketches quite a bit. And, that raccoon is just crazy!
Joanna, the whole raccoon family showed up night before last. We had brought in our feeder and I heard something. Went out and they were up on the third floor, so I went and took down those feeders as no one was there. It is a mama and 4 or 5 young ones. Yikes. Some people moved in yesterday so I told them to bring the feeders in at night as the bears like the nectar, too, and the caretaker saw a bear last night. Hmmmm. I may not check on the noise next time .. I'm sure the bears can climb stairs. Ha.
Jo: What a neat capture, you always have to try to see what luck you will have with the camera. I had a raccoon take a wheel off my trike feeder. What will it do with a wheel?
fishing guy, that is a bummer. Maybe they needed a replacement wheel for their trike feeder. Ha. The raccoons are sure destructive. In TX they took our hummingbird feeders and threw them on the ground to get to the liquid. At least here she just drank, guess it was just tooo far a reach to get it down. :)
Determined little raccoon you've got there! Made me laugh when I saw the pics of him... he MEANS to get his refreshment!
Hi Teresa. Thanks for stopping in! We haven't seen the raccoons for a few days, guess they found easier pickins'.
