Old Timers Reunion, Acrylic Landscape, Photos

Whew! Three days of schmoozing is plenty, don't cha think? It was a lot of fun but my old legs are tired. It was fun to see old friends and visit family. The weather was outstanding. There were many people around as it was Magdalena Fiesta at the Catholic Church as well as the Old Timers' Reunion with the rodeo, barbecue, kids rodeo, parade, food booths, arts and crafts, plays, etc.

Marky, owner of Peppers, is ill and couldn't join us at the Gallery. Mary, Lucy and Contessa, 10 years old, helped and ran the gallelry. Contessa is a hard worker. She cleaned, was the go-for, and entertained us. She also painted a painting of her horse. I will get permission to post her photo.

On Friday I painted out on the porch. I was doing an acrylic of the scene across the street from Peppers Art Gallery. Eddie Tsosie, Navajo artist, painted, too. I got a good start on the painting which was to be the door prize. With the distractions, I didn't finish the painting.

Eddie Tsosie, Navajo Artist, painted along with me. He works in acrylics and has the most beautiful line work. He was chosen to do the artwork on the annual t-shirt for Old Timers.

On Saturday, we had the reception after the parade with sangria (alcohol free), wine, sandwiches from the Magdalena Cafe, cookies, and chocolates. We had a nice crowd of visitors late in the day. Again, it was nice to see old friends and meet some new folks as well.

This "float" caught my fancy, an old wagon being pulled by a new truck. There were many politicians in the parade, I guess that is normal, too.

Smokey the Bear is a popular figure around the country. He hails from Capitan, New Mexico.

A local band, the Pino Brothers. Paul on the guitar went to school with us. As I have said before, we used to go to the Old Timers Reunion to see who the old timers were and now we are the old timers. Yikes!

This old car broke down across the street, but they managed to get it up and running just before the end of the parade.

The firetruck from Magdalena, which brings up the end of the parade. The parade is well attended and one of the highlights of the Reunion. It was a surprise to us the first time we saw the Old Timers Parade, much longer than we expected.

Sunday, I finished the painting and Gene put on the hanger and got it ready for the door prize. It looks nice. We delivered the painting to the winner, Lucille Montoya, on Monday. She was excited to be the winner and very happy that we delivered it in person here in Albuquerque!

I painted the sides with black and red mixed to give it a little life, rather than plain black.

Water Canyon Lodge, is now abandoned. It was a very "hot spot" about halfway between Magdalena and Socorro. They had great food and many good dances there.

Sorry for such a long post, but I just didn't get one done. Our cell phones don't work in Magdalena which means no iPhone internet. We stayed in Socorro after all and had to drive back and forth. Too bad, the motel where we stayed last year is for sale and had no phones or internet. We didn't find that out in time and the other motels and B&Bs were full up.
