Sketches and Marketing Links

I sketched at the studio/gallery yesterday. I worked on a pastel of wildflowers, too. I wiped it off a couple of times. I know in my mind what I want to put on the canvas, but it just wasn't going down. I finally got one that "sort of worked".

I really like Karen Margulis' wildflowers. I don't want to copy her, but I do like the loose random look of the flowers in her work. I do like more detail in my paintings. However, my flowers were looking pasted on. Was I putting in too many? Were the values too similar? More thoughts on that today as I try again. It is very difficult to get them to look natural as opposed to a still life where the flowers have been arranged in a pleasing design already.

In the time I was pondering this I did a couple of sketches. My mind wasn't really on sketching, but I at least scribbled a little and cleared my thoughts .. or organized them a little. These are for Scavenger Hunt 176. I sketched with a Micron 03 and a Rotring Art Pen. I hadn't used the ink pen for sometime. It felt nice. It is a little harder to control as the nib slides very smoothly across the paper. These are very quick freehand sketches.

Number 2, pen nib. I sketched the Rotring nib with the Micron and vice versa. I did the rest of the sketches with the Rotring. Number 3, crumpled paper -- a scratch pad on my desk.

Number 4, phone. The phone on my desk -- really that is a phone. So sad. Number 5, favorite food. At the studio it was either chocolate or nothing. :) Chocolate wins every time anyway.

I have been forgetting to put a new link in my posts. I get a marketing newsletter and thought you might be interested in the blog. Eric Rhoads has some advice for us.

I also get the helpful newsletter from Xanadu Gallery. Maybe you will like their tips as well.
