Plein Air Pastel Demo on Creative Spotlite

I told you I was working on a special project on a previous post. It was a pastel demo of the City of Rocks painting. I finished the demo and Ralph Serpe was kind enough to post it on the Creative Spotlite Art Instruction Blog. This blog is very informative and has a great deal of information and instruction. I'm sure you will find some new ideas and discover some new artists there. You can read my full article there with the work in progress photos.

Rocks are very difficult to paint, but you did a great job.

Jo: Giving shape to a flat painting is always amazing to me. Beautiful painting.

bag blog, thank you. Rocks are difficult. I try to just paint lights and darks and forget they are rocks, but not easy and I tend to make them all the same shape if I'm not careful.

fishing guy, thanks. Nice to hear from you.

Thank ye, Joanna. :)

Kasie, thanks so much.

Rhonda, thanks for coming by. Appreciate the comment.

Valerie, thanks for being in my cheering bunch!

I enjoyed seeing you demo this!!!

Thanks, Joan. The demo idea forced me to go paint. That is always good. :)

I am dealing with some rocks in pastel right now too. I keep reminding myself not to overblend, and you did a fine job here of staying distinct with color.

Robin Maria, thank you. It is always hard to concentrate on color, light and shadow and not think rocks. You have a very informative and interesting blog.
