Here is a painting I did at the City of Rocks two years ago.
Pastel 9 x 12 inches
This is the latest painted in the same park.
City Rocks
Pastel, 9 x 12 inches
City Rocks
Pastel, 9 x 12 inches
The first one is more finished. I did some tweaking on it before framing.
Give plein air painting a try. It is lots of fun and you learn so much from painting from life. I have been working on a plein air demo that I worked on with the City Rocks painting, when it is posted, I will let you know.

My daughter, Jesse, just posted a pretty funny story on plein aire painting http://skybag.blogspot.com/2008/09/dog-days-of-summer.html
Bag Blog, yes, a great plein air story. Not a bad painting either. :) Thanks.
Love your sky in 'On the Rocks'... the painting is cool too... but the colour of your sky... really cool
Hi Sylvia, thanks. I always put at least 3 or 4 colors in my skies. Darker at the top in landscapes, however here in NM there isn't always a lot of difference in value as the skies are soooo bright. We visited Cranbrook a couple of times and played golf there. Beautiful area of Canada. You went to a workshop with Carol Marine, cool. I haven't met her, but have seen her big paintings in Austin at Wally Workman's Gallery.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I enjoyed visiting your blog.
Joe: An artist eye you certainly have and it shows in these two paintings. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Thank you, fishing guy. Your artist eye is sure showing up in your photography now.
That's great to have the two images next to each other. It seems you've gotten a lot more adventurous with color, am I right?
See you soon!
Thanks Susan, I'm interested to see them next to each other. Photos are hard to tell. I do love color.
It is interesting to see the different versions. I agree with you...everyones should give plein air a try!
Hi Joan, thanks for stopping by. I need to take my own advice and get to painting .... something.
I like "On The Rocks".
Hi there, Juanita. Thank you for stopping by and liking my painting. Hope you are not too tired after your hike! Hugs.
