Drawing and Artists that Draw, Acrylic Cactus

I'm not sure how I started reading DaniDraws.com. Leslie was it you? Anyway the newest post has a list of 75 artists you must know and where to find them.

There is a large amount of info on DaniDraws and you can get lost there learning and discovering. Have fun but come back here.

I changed the painting, Pears in Bloom. I kept looking at it sitting across from me here in the living room. Many artists have a similar place. A "curing" shelf where they put completed works and let them sit to check on as they pass by. Some artists turn the work to the wall and don't look at it for some period of time. I usually sit mine in the living room where I can see them from my computer. The more I looked at the cactus painting from a distance the more the flower part looked like daisies. Not good as they do not look like daisies in real life. :) Up close it was OK. I decided to change the flowers and I am pleased. I think the new image is closer to the real color and I realized it is 11 x 14 inches, not 9 x 12 inches. See what you think.

Hi Jo! I like the new one best. The brightness of the yellow really sets it off! Another beauty!

I'm feeling compelled to chime in and agree. Pretty yellow.

You were right, I was wrong (don't you love it when someone says that?). I didn't want you to touch it, but it does look more like cactus flowers - the color plus also it has the more "waxy" look to the flowers. Great job, Jo!

Heh, Joanna, your comment can be read a couple of ways, depending on the emphasis. :)

Ooooo. Thanks Regina. The photo color is closer now, too, which makes a difference. The blue is pretty bright in the photo and it is more subtle in real life, but blue does that especially in digital photos for me.

I can't take credit for showing you DaniDraws. I may have, but I don't remember :)

I didn't see the cactus flowers in the first pic as 'daisylike' until you said! The second pic is exactly what the cactus flowers look like. Almost rose like.

I like the contrast of the bright yellow to the rest of the pic in #2. It makes the blossoms appear to be in sunlight.

Great job!

I'm chiming in for the new version too. All the colors look richer. Could be the jpg or the complements. Who cares? It looks great. nancy

Leslie, I don't know about DaniDraws either, but lots of interesting stuff there. Thanks for the nice words on the cactus.

Nancy, I did get a better photo, but the flowers came out richer in real life, too. Thank you. :)

At the risk of sounding redundant, the new version is tremendous, it give the painting a whole different impact - nicely done!

Thanks, Rose. You know it is always good to have nice comments. :)

I have a potted version of that kind of cactus and your second version of the flowers looks just like the blooms on mine when they bloomed this spring! I really like it very much!

gardener50JD, thank you so much. I have never seen any bloom in a pot. Lucky you or you are a great gardener. :)
