I mentioned that I was going to try colored pencil on Pastelbord. I had a 5 x 7 pastelbord that I had used for a sketch. It had an apple on a plate, I washed off the pastel, but it left quite a shadow image, so I just went over that with colored pencil. I am surprised at how easily the colored pencil covers the surface. I was also able to change some areas just by putting a new color over an edge or mistake I was correcting. I finished the drawing and sprayed with Lascaux Fixativ. It seems to have covered it well with little to no bleeding or dissolving of the pencil. It worked so well that I am tempted to try it on pastel now.
Here is the colored pencil drawing. The cut piece of apple is a little more yellow than I wanted, but this was just a test, so I did not try to erase some and do over. It is ready to be framed ... with no glass. Very nice.
Now I will try working on a clean Pastelbord with a new drawing. I think I will like it.
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Very nice little drawing Jo. I have some pastel board but I haven't used it for coloured pencil yet, though I've seen great results from others with it.
Does it eat up the pencils rapidly and what's the coverage like?
Hi Jeanette, As I have said, I haven't used CP very much. The board covered easily and it didn't seem to use much more pencil than paper does, but I have only sketched, not made large drawings. Check out Nicole Caulfield's blog for details and Maggie Stiefvater's blog. They both use Pastelbord.
Jo: It's a nice little drawing. I can't wait to see how it comes out.
Happy Easter.
Good on you Jo, I like it! From the photo, if I had to guess, I'd say you did it in pastels - interesting.
As for Jeanette's question, yes, I'd say that Pastelbord does chew up the pencils, because it really doesn't take a dull pencil at all, they have to be sharp, so you are constantly sharpening.
I really like this Jo.
fishing guy, thank you.
Rose, I guess it looks like pastels because I didn't sharpen the pencils. :) I'm lazy and stingy, so sharpen only when absolutely necessary. Ha. Guess I will try another!
