Cactus Sketches and Baseball Note

I wasn't going to post but decided I had better get up an artful post. UT Baseball starts tomorrow. Yipee! I love it, we love it, but it is a vicious schedule this year. The NCAA decided that the southern schools had an advantage over the northern schools by starting early February so all NCAA baseball starts this weekend, I think. The Longhorns will have the same number of games so we will be going to five games a week instead of four. I don't know how they will keep up their studies and travel so much. We will be driving back and forth to Austin so our days will be pretty full. I will try to sketch for some of the Scavenger Hunts since I won't have much painting time. The stadium, Disch-Falk Field, has been remodeled as you may remember and it is super nice now. Joanna went to fan appreciation day and got some photos for a preview. Hook 'em Horns!

This is the Eyes of Texas at the last game with the Aggies last year.

I sketched these cactus flowers while watching golf last evening. That is your art for the day. I got a good start on the acrylic painting with an idea from these sketches today. You will get to see it soon! I like it now. Acrylics dry so dark that it takes some practice to get them bright enough to suit me. I don't like to paint everything fifty times. Maybe this painting will help me figure it out. I will let you know. Tomorrow night .... baseball photos!

I can hardly wait to see the painting. I like the golf notes on the sketch. The notes makes your sketching so real.

Hi Regina, Thanks on the cactus sketches. Maybe we will get together. Joanna went to Kerby Lane yesterday and saw your exhibit. Maybe we will get there on Saturday or Sunday after the game. :)

I love these little cactus sketches. I'd love to be able to sketch/photograph some blooming cacti. We don't get them here. I was able to capture a few photos of a friend's caci blossoms in CA once. They make such pretty paintings.

Joan, I like the cactus flowers, too. These sketches are from photos and memories. We have some cacti in the yard, but they haven't bloomed. Too dry this year I think. They were super in New Mexico the last couple of years. Even the cholla bloomed and I think it is pretty much on the endangered list. At least around our old home town. I'll try to find some of the photos for you to sketch. :)

I think you got it a bit wrong, many of the Northern schools have been whining about the Southern schools having an advantage because they can play earlier. There is no reason why the Northern schools could not schedule their early games down "south" but like so much of what goes on these days too many people feel they are entitled to everything and do not have to work for what they get. The NCAA gave in to them and now none of the schools can play official games until the last week in Feb to "level the playing field". The only thing that is going to happen is the quality of all baseball is going to suffer because the schedule is condensed. But the whiners get their way again as usual.

Gene, thanks. I hope the game doesn't suffer, but it does seem likely.
