Sketches for Hunt #72 and Bug Photo

I haven't been a regular on the Scavenger Hunts lately, but try to do a couple for each Hunt. The Hunts last for 9 days and I have only missed about 4. The Hunt number now is 72. They have been good for my sketching habits. I am not a natural sketch artist. I do it because I think it will help my painting. I have been sketching for a long time, at least drawing with pen and ink. I started in high school I guess, inspired by my Aunt. When I do pen and ink drawings, I start in pencil. With sketches, no drawing first. After I met Sue Modrak in Montana (see previous post), she encouraged me to sketch. Sue sketches regularly. She likes it and sketches any time she is waiting in line or has a few minutes. If she sees something she likes she sketches it! I am more apt to take a photo. Hmmm. Sue doesn't have a blog or web page, but you can read about how she has influenced me here. We try to get together and paint and sketch once in a while. She lives in Michigan, so we do it about once a year. Great fun. I will post more about other artists as inspiration in another post.

Back to the Hunts. Both of these were sketched with Micron 005 pens in my small sketchbook. For Hunt 72, number 1, ball. I sketched Gene's golf ball rack. It was sitting on the couch. It has 4 rows, but I got tired of it. I get bored easily when sketching or painting takes too long. I was side tracked with TV and didn't do a great job. I did at least sketch!

Number 2 and 3 together in one sketch, 2, leg and 3,rug. Interesting the chair is blue and the rug red in real life. The wood floor is brown, though.

Now for the bug. It is about an inch long. It was on the old couch out on the porch. Pretty awful looking, I have no idea what it is. (You can tell the couch is old from the upholstery, right?)

Jo - It's good to have a sketch partner once in a while. I enjoy sketching and I think it helps me with my paintings a lot. But lately it seems like I do more sketching than painting, so I may have to cut back a bit.

Joan, yes, sketching with someone is inspiring. I somewhat get the same feeling from the Hunts with the commenting. I was spending too much time there and all internet stuff. :)

Leslie, thank you! Nice to have a personal research assistant! Bugs aren't favorites of mine.
