Well, I had a little itch to sketch today, so stopped by Scavenger Hunt 68. I missed #67 completely, which is OK. I do peek in even when I don't sketch or post. I'm addicted.
It has been a while since I sketched at all or touched an art tool of any kind. Too much company and fun, oh, and food. Now I have a cold and the post Christmas doldrums.
Here are my quick sketches for this Hunt. They were done with a Micron 005 pen in my small NY sketchbook. For anyone new checking in, I sketch with a pen with no pencil drawing, trying to look and sketch correctly as practice for painting. Look twice and stroke once. Something like carpenter work .. measure twice, cut once.
#1, clamp - 5 minutes, #2 Favorite pen - 5 min., #3 Glasses - 10 minutes, #4 A piece of jewelry - a turquoise ring - 5 minutes
#5 Door knob and challenge, whole door - 10 minutes
#6 Soy Sauce - 7 minutes
#7 An orange, a bag of clementines - 10 minutes
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Jo - You must have more than one Micron 005, since you sketched it here. Glad to see you join the hunts once in a while.
Jo - on the "measure twice, cut once" - I try to remember to do this as well. But I normally sort of look, make mark, look, compare, etc. But I have toyed with trying to get the shape burned into my mind then just drawing the shape in one go, eyes on paper (image on mind.) Have you ever tried this sort of idea?
Hi Jo! I hope you got lots of new pens in your Christmas stocking this year. It's always fun to swing by and see what you've been sketching. Are you going to be entering anything in the APS show? If I am, I'm going to have to get very busy fast. We're hosting a New Year's Eve party first, though. Want to come sing karaoke with us? Have a fun time, whatever you do.
Susan
Joan, :) .. I do have a few. I bought a couple of the burnt umber last summer and Joanna got me another set of the colors for my birthday, so I am set for a while! As I have said I think I am addicted to the Hunts, but as much for the comaraderie as for the sketching! It is so much fun to see the different ideas for the same items.
Rose, that is sort of what I mean. I try to look carefully before I make a mark or marks. When I get in a hurry though, I tend to look and mark at the same time, sort of a blind contour drawing and get the perspective and shape started incorrectly. Oh well, it is all practice. Thanks for stopping by.
Susan, I did get some art supplies. No pens. :) I got a couple of folding tables for plein air. I will photograph them for the blog. Also an acrylic 'how to' book. I'm like you for the APS. I have one started but it is not coming together as planned. I hope we work better under pressure!!
Also Gene says you have to give us much more notice to come sing. Our calendar is sooooo full as you know. Heh, heh.
Hope you have a great party and New Year!
These sketches look great, Jo! I'm going to have to start sketching. Great practice.
Thanks, Valerie. Sketching is good for us. Sometimes it is a struggle for me to get started. That is why I take part in the Hunts. Then that takes too much time and I quit for a while, etc.... :)
