We didn't do our usual Memorial Day things. We used to always go to the Bastrop celebration. I'm not sure why I never even saw what was going on here.
We will remember and think of the fallen.... family and friends and all the others we didn't know but gave their all to keep us free.
I love this post by Mikki Senkarik, a Texas artist that I follow. We saw some of her original paintings in Santa Fe a few years ago. Bright, colorful and tell stories for the folks that commission her work.

Remembering a few names Frank "Powder" Knoblock, brother, and Joe Montoya, Gene's uncle that served in World War II and survived. Neil Garrett, our sister-in-law's brother, killed in the Korean War. Robert Mowery, nieces husband. Just to say the names to remember them on this day.

Jo this is certainly a beautiful painting...yes we must never forget what it took so that we could live in this land and be free. My father-in-law was in WWII...my dad was in the navy during Korea...my grandfather received a purple heart for serving in WWI...wounded in battle...so many more...God bless them and may God bless America - Hugs!
Debbie, thanks so much. We need to remind the younger folks about our freedom. Thanks for your kind words and thanks to your father-in-lay, dad and grandfather and all the rest. Hugs.
This is one of my favorite paintings of yours and it makes me smile each time you repost it. My dad was in the army, Jerry was in the army and served in Germany, my father-in-law, also a Jerry crewed on a bomber in Germany and Italy. All my mother's brothers fought in WWII. Luckily the all came home safely, but none of them ever really spoke to us about the actual fighting, just the humorous stories of the men they served with. I'm thankful for all of them.
Joan, thank you. Gene's brother made the mailbox out of iron so the folks couldn't beat it up with a baseball bat or shoot it up as happens in the country. And the flag is special ... always. Thanks for naming and mentioning your family members in the service. We are so appreciative of all of them. Hugs.
