Pastel - Ink and Link

Pastels called to me this morning.  Actually they have been calling for a few days.  I only had a short while to work on this so a sketch for the Scavenger Hunt.

Number 5, 6 and 7 - bowl, animal and cup.  This is on the wiped off piece of Pastelbord, 9 x 12 inches.  I may work on it again to correct the bowl and make the whole thing lighter and brighter.

 And the set up.

Later we went to a check up for Gene. All good, back in 6 months.   I sketched with a Micron 03 in my small Canson regular paper sketchbook.  We moved several times for lab, see the doctor and a shot, so my size on my hands is a bit off.  It was fun to work in spurts.

Number 8 art supplies - sketchbook, pen and hands.

I have followed Julian Mero-Smith for years.  A daily painter that probably started the popular movement a few years ago.  Right now, Plein Air has taken over.  I still follow several artists that continue to paint daily.  I love these strawberries.  They are in a basket, haven't seen those in years.  You can look at more of his work by clicking on previous or next.  His still life work is my favorite.

Table on the Porch

Of course I sketched on the porch.  When it isn't too hot and muggy, that is the place to be early in the morning with my coffee and snack.  I had an HEB protein bar today.  I hadn't had one in a while.  They are so good and about half the price of the name brands.

Number 4 table - one of the glass end tables.  The shed and trees through the screen in the background.

I do not use layers or do many changes on my iPad sketches.  I try to have them be just like my sketches with a pen or pastels.  I do use different brushes to get texture, like the triangles on the leaves.  I also use different pressure on the brushes like for the reflections on the table.

I don't do digital sketches very often so it is always a learning curve to remember what I did before.  Therefore, it takes longer to sketch on my iPad, iPhone or iMac.

Soft Useful Free

I sketched at physical therapy for Gene today.  It was just too muggy to sit outside, so....

Number 1 soft - tissue, the boxes have clever writing on them
Number 2 useful - hand sanitizer
Number 3 free space (half) - a lady had on some neat Sketchers and left before I got the first outlined so I half finished it.  The shoes were very light in color, pinkish and had fun design and texture.

These are in the small Canson sketchbook with a Micron 03.  You may remember that I lost a lid to one of my pens.  Well it was in the coils of that sketchbook!

Tomorrow is another day without any heavy schedule so maybe a pastel sketch.  We will see.
