Austin Sketches

We went to Austin for a psychology test for Gene.  The doctor is ready to fix the right side now that the left is all hooked up.  She is trying for the operation to be in April.  These tests take 3 or more hours.

I walked down to Starbucks for a latte and to sketch.  It was nice and sunny, about 60 degrees out.  The coffee shop had some comfy padded seats and tables and chairs outside.  I sat at a table for sketching.  All was going swell, then the wind started.  It blew over my coffee and made the water color paint run.  I sketched the scooters and motor bike and went back to the doctors office to get out of the wind.

For Scavenger Hunt 577

I wasn't really sketching for the Hunt but these items fit.  Nice.  I used a Micron 01, Prismacolor 03 and watercolors.

Number 3  Trees
Number 4 Store - across from the coffee shop, convenience store

Number 5, metal - scooters and bike.  This is a fad in Austin at the moment.  You download an app, use a credit card, hop on and go.  You can leave them parked where ever you ride them to.  I guess the companies pick them up and recharge them.  They are very dangerous in traffic and the users have been leaving them all over the place.  The city is fining the companies $200 when they are left in the road or blocking the sidewalks.  The companies are trying to pass that on to the customers to get them to be more responsible.  Lots of luck with that, eh?  Few people are responsible these days.  They are entitled.

And a photo of my spot for sketching.  This is Guadalupe Street.  The green car actually stayed there quite a while.  There were lots of buses so had to wait to see across the street and sketch in between.

Number 6, quiet space to meditate.
Back to the doctors office to get out of the wind.  This lady was sitting on an extra wide chair.  I didn't get to finish it, she seemed to notice me sketching and moved away.  It was nice and quiet.  There were a boy and girl about 7 and 9 and were studying their spelling lists.  I was quite impressed.  The girl was the youngest.  The boy would say 'blew'.  She would answer 'b-l-e-w like the wind, not b-l-u-e like the color.'  They were having a good time but well behaved.  They were next to me so I couldn't sketch them.

  1. I like your sketch of Guadaloupe Street. Usually when I sketch from a distance a big truck or bus will park right in my line of site.

  2. Joan, thank you. I was lucky that none of the buses stayed put. They would just stop at the light.

  3. We saw those scooters all over Paris. I was tempted to hop on after all the walking we did. But I may be getting a bit old for scooters.

  4. Bag Blog, I'm not tempted, I've always had terrible balance, one of the reasons I don't like bicycles. Gene wants to try the scooters but can't balance his 2 wheel bike. Maybe after his surgeries get finished.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Comments are much appreciated. :) I will be moderating comments for a while to see how that works. You won't see your comments until I read them. Better than you getting spam stuff. Thanks for your patience.
