I sketched the ground squirrels and rabbits. Yesterday I saw movement out the corner of my eye and thought it was a squirrel or rabbit. I looked up and thought, "No, it is a big dog", which I said out loud to Gene. Then we saw it was a pretty big bear, light brown in color, running like a bat out of hell (strange expression) across the meadow and along the highway. The bear was running away from town. We did not see anything chasing it or being chased by it. There was no time to get a camera. Gene said there might have been two large cubs as he first saw one running in the other direction and turned. The one was running on the highway for a bit.
So our sightings are now robins, hawks, ground squirrels, cottontail rabbits, bear, other birds, elk cow, deer doe and lizards and we haven't driven around much. This is from our house!

We had leftovers from Casa de Benevidez in Albuquerque for dinner so didn't eat out. The next night we went to the Sunset Grill. In later years, Mom and Dad used to rent a condo in RR. They had a hummingbird feeder on their porch. One night they heard a racket. A Momma bear and two baby bears were in the tree by the porch - getting into the hummingbird feeder. Those feeders turned out to be quite the bear lure.
ReplyDeleteBag Blog, yikes! On the porch is a bit close for bears! The feeders we put up a couple of years ago attracted a big raccoon and 4 or 5 babies. We don't have any up here or any outside trash as you know is not good. The hummers here are so neat to see. We always had so many.

ReplyDeleteThe bear or bears were heading out! Remember one of the times we had a big black bear right in the parking lot of one of the condos we stayed in. Crazy folks were out trying to get close up photos. He/she finally went away. All the garbage dumpsters have bear proof locks on them. Community dumpsters so we carry our trash to any dumpster.
