Plein Air Paint Out Trio Day 2

Friday morning it was off to Smithville.  Sort of a triangle trip for me.  We met at Joan Bohls 9-E Ranch which has a Smithville address, but sits a bit south of Bastrop and 20 miles or so for me.  From there we went for the afternoon in Smithville proper which is about 12 miles from Joan's and then back home, another 20 miles.

The morning at the ranch was beautiful.  I have painted there a couple of times with Joan and some of the Bastrop artists.  I chose to do a landscape.

Set up painting at Joan's

9-E Splendor
14 x 11 inches on Windberg Board

I bought that board several years ago when I attended a workshop at the Windberg Art Center in Georgetown.  http://windbergartcenter.com/  I had never used the board.  It was nice.  They say it is good for any type painting, oil, acrylic, pastel, etc.  It is somewhat heavy compared to Pastelbord but had a nice feel to it.

By the time I got to Smithville and had lunch at the Bakery Cafe it was getting windy again.  I went down the street by the Front Room Wine Bar and stood up toward the wall to see the scene I painted.
Where in Smithville?
Pastel on Pastelbord, 8 x 10 inches

I edited it a little when I got home.  I made the long wall darker as it was in shade and fixed the sidewalk.  There were many more on the sidewalk, another table, chairs, etc.  Again I simplified!

We met for dinner at "Your Mom's".  http://eatatyourmoms.com/  It was good food.  You order at the counter and wait on yourself for drinks, silverware, etc.  I prefer to be waited on at dinner and have a glass of   Will try it again for lunch.

These were taken at Joan's ranch.

I sketched in the bakery when I had lunch, then I sketched for a while after I got out of the wind in the car.  Took a little nap, too.

Come back for Day 3!

  2. Regina, thanks so much. I'm feeling pretty good about the paintings. It was super to see you and say how much I miss our painting together. We will meet in the middle sometime in the fall, I hope.

  4. Bag Blog, thank you. I liked my paintings this paint out. It was feeling easier by the end, even though I was tired. Painting is easier when you do it all the time and don't have to think as much.

  6. Joan, I hope so, but I do have to keep with it and have not done another painting. Maybe tomorrow, we are out most of the day again today, back and forth to Austin.
