Lemon or Lime Pastel Sketch

Happy New Year!

Maybe if I start the year off with a pastel sketch it will inspire painting.  Hmmmm.  Join us for some sketching to tune up your skills or just have fun.

"New Year's Day: now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual . . . New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls, and humbug resolutions.” -- Mark Twain  (from Gene's journal this morning)

Number 4, lemon or lime - quick pastel sketch on used/recycled sanded paper.  You can see some shadows behind the lemons from previous sketches.

The green pastels I used for the lime are cool to the blue side of green.  I didn't want to take the time to get pastels out of my plein air bag.  I think there are some better warmer more yellow greens.  I also could have blended/scumbled some yellow over the green but I didn't want to spend time and turn the sketch into a painting.

Our year is starting off well.  Gene is moving around well.  We watched the ball drop in New York Times Square and then in Dallas for Texas time.  The Dallas fireworks and ball are pretty as well.  There was plenty of noise here at midnight.  I assume shooting guns and also fireworks.  We didn't try to look out and see.  Crazy folks shooting up .. the bullets have to come back down.  Ouch!

  1. Sketching is such a nice way to end the year and begin the new one. I like seeing your burst of color.

I didn't manage to stay up until midnight. I had 2 drinks and a little dancing with our dinner at home, and by 10 I needed to go to bed. Didn't see the ball drop or hear any noise. lol I guess I must be getting old. lol

Happy New Year! May 2019 be filled with joy, health, family, friends, love and inspiration!!!

  3. It was a quiet New Years here. We did not stay up. We did watch a movie - the new version of Magnificent Seven. It was okay.

  4. Bag Blog, we never do much on New Years Eve. I'm not sure why they are reviving the old movies. No new ideas?? We watched the new Murder on the Orient Express with Judi Dench. It was pretty well done. It had been so long since we saw an old movie and read the book that we didn't remember the outcome until the last minute. Odd.
