Hunting and Painting

I sketched out on the porch in my new/old Canson, 7 x 10 inch sketchbook, white paper, with a Prismacolor Premier 08 marker/pen.  For you folks up north, it is 80 degrees as we speak.  The door to the porch is open and it is lovely.  The sad part is that UT Baseball starts on February 15 and I just bet the temperature will be in the 30s or 40s for the first game.  That is normal around here!

For Scavenger Hunt #300, (Come on over and sketch with us!)  Number 1 and 2, chair, table.  Number 3, new - this is one of 3 copper luminarias that Joanna brought us last weekend.  Very pretty and will be fun to put a candle in at Christmas.  Number 4, old - an old metal cream and sugar bowl that was my grandmother's.  It was silver in color, must have been stainless, though because after being in the big fire, they didn't melt, just turned black.

I have been painting yesterday and today.  I decided to try out the M. Graham Walnut Oil paints.  So far the colors seem good and there is no odor so I can easily paint with them in my studio.  I like to paint with oil paints and smoosh the paint around with a brush. Really, I do.   I always forget though, until I get started, that I do not like the cleaning up of the brushes and waiting for the paint to dry!  If I paint for an hour then I have 20 minutes or so of cleanup or longer.  With my pastels I just walk away and wash my hands.

I am painting apples.  What else?  When I can't think of what to paint, I paint apples.  I like red and mixing up all the colors to get a realistic apple.  I bought some big apples, not sure what kind they are.  The cheapest?? I am going to cook them for Gene and I.  They have a lot of yellow on them, very pretty.  I will post a work in progress about my trial run and about what I think of the paints.

Hi Jo, so glad to hear from you. I am sooooo jealous of your weather. We had several days of below zero temps but it has been up in the 40's and 50's lateley. I love all your sketches, I bet its fun looking through a full sketch book. Love the paintings you did for the art show, I'm sure you will do great.

Hi, Steph. Happy that you have had a bit of relief from the cold. We expect our good weather won't hold either. :( Thanks for stopping in and thanks for the kind words.

It is always great to see your sketches. I like that painting you did below of the windmill. Great that you got to take part in a swap. Nice work, Jo!

Joan, thank you so much. Windmills are very nostalgic I think. Hugs.
