Hopefully I will get back in a routine, soon.
I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Scavenger Hunt 58 Sketch
This is the first sketch for Scavenger Hunt 58, October 4 - 12. You can see I am already behind as today is October 6.
#1, Coke can, this is a squatty can of 100 calories. With a Faber-Castell, PITT artists' pen. It is like felt tipped, so no fine lines or thinned out lines. Colored with CP. About 20 minutes total in the NY sketchbook. The paper is white.
Hopefully I will get back in a routine, soon.

Art Critic

The Lola comic strip by Steve Dickenson and Todd Clark made me smile today, October 5, 2007. I included the link, but this strip will move when they put up a new one, so here it is. Lola has great insight, you would probably enjoy browsing through the archives. Today's strip certainly shows our elite critics of contemporary art. :)

Scetches for Hunt 57
When I saw the name above, I thought Heinz 57, oh well.
I had a chance to get a couple of sketches done for the Scavenger Hunt 57. They were done in the NY sketchbook with the Micron 005 pen and some colored pencil on the second one.
Number 5, native tree. I think this is a mesquite tree in the back yard. It is about 10 feet tall. At any rate they grow here. Maybe it is a mimosa. I will ask Gen in the morning. About 10 minutes of sketching.
Number 6, something rolled up. The hose in the back for back washing the pool. It is on a tree stump, a huge one in the back yard.
We will have company for a couple of days, Gen and Charlie, so I probably won't post and will be more behind. We will golf and visit and enjoy life. I still haven't posted about the marathon. Gosh, with golf, swimming, eating and procrastinating ... it is hard to get things done!

Sadness
You may have wondered about our trip to Austin and my silence. We went for a funeral of a dear friend. He has been like a second father for Joanna. What words of sympathy can say what we feel? Joanna put up this nice tribute on her post of September 18, 2007. Our hearts go out to his family.
Scavenger Hunt 57 start
I missed Scavenger Hunt 56 completely. Wow. I did have the excuse of a trip to Austin and a visit from friend Sue, where we had the marathon art week. I still have to get the photos ready for that post.
For new readers, my sketching is always a work in progress. It helps my painting, so I do it like my chores. The Hunts have helped to vary what I sketch and have a support group. :) I sketch with pen to keep me from erasing. I am trying to "see" better and and put down correct true strokes and plan ahead. Sometimes I get ahead of myself and just plunge in. Sketches are really for the artist's personal use, but with this new age of blogs, artists are baring our souls.
For Hunt 57 I have done two sketches and four items. They are in my NY Sketchbook with a Micron 005 pen.
#1 Flowers flowing over a fence/wall, none here so we have flowers peeking through the wall.
#2 Shoehorn, this is the one Gene uses to sit on the bed and not bend over, the length is longer than I drew, it should go off the page. :( #3 Pencil case, this is a wooden box from Bolivia. #4 telephone, the phone here at the house, not on its stand.
