Scavenger Hunt 52, Sketches 6 - 10

I sat on the deck and sketched yesterday afternoon. It was so nice out there. It had been a hot day and it clouded up and was nice and cool. We played golf first so sketching was a good way to wind down.

#6 Sports Related item, my golf shoes. #7 Something bumpy, golf ball. I was surprised at the dimples on the ball. I thought golf balls had concentric or even dimples. These were different sizes and very random. They must have figured out that it helps as these are some of the newest balls. I sketched with the Micron 05 pen and as you see it finally ran out of ink. That pen was a good one! About 20 minutes in the NY sketchbook.

#8 Part of your vehicle, the front passenger side of the van. I could see this by standing on the corner of the deck and didn't have to go out on the street. The Micron 005 purple pen, about 15 minutes on the next page of the sketchbook.

#9 Get Someone to bring you something to sketch, Gene brought his Birkenstocks. Again with the Micron 05. I didn't note the time, but about 20 minutes.

#10 Something nautical, nothing around here nautical so Gene found this boat in a bottle cartoon in the Reader's Digest. About 15 minutes, same pen and sketchbook.

Hunting Sketches

Sketches for the Scavenger Hunt 52.

#4, Favorite art tool - my pastels of course. This is only one little drawer full. They are addictive and I have lots, but there must be a sale soon. :) I'm sure there is a a new blue or purple I would like, maybe red.... hmmmm.

#5, draw the object closest to you . That is what I read. Well the object has two lines, the list reads, "stand inside your front or back door, take 10 steps in to the room and
draw the object closest to you " Duh. Anyway, I drew my hands, pen and sketchbook. Maybe I will get to something else before the Hunt is over. :( My left hand is larger, too, in the sketch. That is not the way it is. Ha.

Note on Trees and Sketch for Scavenger Hunt 52

For Scavenger Hunt 52: #3 Something you heard today, Rain. It rained pretty hard after I finished the sketch. About 1/2 inch. Smells so good. In the NY sketchbook with the green Micron 005 pen. About 5 or 10 minutes. I did this yesterday.

It is raining again this afternoon. Rain in the mountains is so nice. It rains very hard, the sun comes out and dries it up and then it is cool. Hard to beat. In Bastrop it just gets humid and sticky after the rain in the summer. In the winter it stays cloudy and gloomy and pretty cold.

I worked on a tree painting, but not pleased with the color so will wipe it and do it again. After all, the idea is to practice and learn about trees.

I was reading my blogs and there is a post today by one of the pastel artists that is very good in painting trees with gesture and feeling. Go check out Paula Ford. She makes beautiful Tennessee mountain paintings. :) So I stayed around her blog and website and looked at her trees. I also looked at her postings on wetcanvas.com
So that was my tree research today. Thanks, Paula.

Here is another great tree painter that I see on wetcanvas all the time. Tom Christopher. I love his loose style. Sigh.
