The Longhorns won their first game in the NCAA Regionals against Brown, 8-2. Pretty cool. You will be able to check it out on the NCAA page, the Longhorn page and Joanna's page. Congratulations to Brown on a game well played. Their first time in front of such a large crowd and at the Regionals. Cool for them, too.
It must have been great to be there. Sounds so good!

I am an artist that paints in pastels, with some oils, and acrylics. I sketch in pen and ink. As an artist my original paintings are influenced from living in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Bolivia, Peru and Chile, and travels throughout much of Canada and all our fifty States. This is my spot for posting paintings and sketches, to muse mostly about art, life and a little about UT Baseball.

Late Memorial
The Sentinels
Pastel 16 x 20
My brother, Powder, was a veteran of WWII, he was awarded two Purple Hearts. My sister-in-law's brother, Neil Garrett, was a killed in the Korean War. Gene's uncle, Joe Montoya, was a veteran of WWII and was awarded the Silver Star. His other uncle, Herman Montoya was a veteran of WWII as well. Gene was in the Air Force and David was in the Marines. Many more of our friends and neighbors are/were vets as well. How did I not post a memorial of any kind? I did think of them and remember them. We were busy and having fun and we owe this freedom to all our soldiers then and now.Pastel 16 x 20
You might check out this YouTube video by Lizzie Palmer, 15 years old, it is very touching. It is about 5 minutes long.

**P.S. Remember to look at the Marine Corps artist, Kris Battles, Sketchpad Warrior, too.
Michigan stay, Sketch
We are in Michigan and have had a whirlwind day. Always happens with Sue around. Ha. We got here on Wednesday evening and Sue was delayed in her arrival, so we played nine holes of golf at Beeches Golf Club. Links style and very nice. We dined at The Fish Tale Pub and Grille - 38 North Shore Drive, 269.637.5123, on the non-smoking deck and had a very enjoyable dinner.
Yesterday, Sue came and picked me up and we went to Saugatuck to do our art thing.

We walked, talked and sketched. Turns out my sketch was #1 something that floats for Scavenger Hunt 42. Micron 05 pen in a Chronicle sketchbook that Sue gave me in 2003. It has a place for a sketch and notes. Perfect for traveling. Has four colored pencils on the front in a little case.
Mostly talked, of course. A latte at a place overlooking the harbor. Gene says latte in French means "you paid too much for your coffee." Ah well. We met up with Gene and Sue's mom in the afternoon and decided to eat at Marro's in Saugatuck. David was in Grand Rapids so he drove down and joined us for dinner. Sue's brother is the head chef and WOW what a dinner. It is Italian with flair. One dish was stuffed morrell mushrooms. The best dinner we can remember, ever, and we eat out a lot!!
A couple of photos from South Haven.

The sky was hazy and you could hardly see the horizon. Looked like the boats were floating in the sky.
The Horns play Brown tonight at 7 Central Time for the Regionals. They play at the Round Rock Express Stadium. Hook-em!
Sorry we can't be there, but hey, our granddaughter, Christy, is graduating from high school in the morning. Go, Christy!! We have our priorities right!
So, I am even more behind in this blogging world.

Final Sketches Scavenger Hunt 41
This is the last day of Scavenger Hunt 41, May 20-29, so I am posting at the last minute. I did these on May 25, 2007, for the Hunt. These are in the Canson sketchbook with the ZIG Millennium that is short on ink! The sketchbook is about 4.5 x 6 inches so not large. These are #12 Gestures of people in public places.

The first one is at the baseball game during warm up. They were hitting the ball around, throwing, and exercising to warm up. My gestures were small. Each one is just a few seconds as they certainly don't the poses. :) It is really good practice to see which way the body moves and turns.

The second is the crowd at the Mickey Mantel restaurant bar. Nice place, dark wood, sports TV. I don't sketch people nearly as often as I should. You can certainly tell.

On Line Spot Exhibit
My exhibit in Magdalena, July 7 , 2007, is on Southwest Flair, under ARTS. Looks like a nice place to look for things to do.

Seven Deadly Sins by Leslie
Well, no blogging photos or art for me today. On the road again, (hum Willie's song) and just too tired after 10 hours in the car. Don't know how Gene is surviving. I tagged Leslie the other day and since she is new at blogging, she didn't tag others. That is OK, I hate chain letter type thingeys (as Leslie says). But she wrote about her Seven Deadly Sins and you might pop over and read that here for the blank space in my blog.
Have fun, check out the other great links below and I hope to see you tomorrow. It will be a much shorter drive day today. We are in Des Moines, Iowa, today, headed to Wisconsin. Just a hop, skip and a jump from Omaha . Speaking of which, the Horns are hosting a regional. Check on Joanna's page.

Baseball Horns beat Nebraska 5-4 Photo

Here is the Eyes of Texas at the end of the game. It was a little scary but the Horns held on. I won't get more photos done tonight it is after midnight. You can see some great photos on the Big 12 site. Joanna has the story on her page of course. The official Longhorn page has their news.
We are not staying for the championship game. We will be north of here toward and beyond Kansas City somewhere tomorrow. More postings there. I have sketches for wetcanvas and all kinds of photos from here. Don't hold your breath, but I will post soon.
