Baseball Photos from Thursday 5/25 vs Aggies

Sorry for no photos from Thursday's game any sooner. Too much going on and as Joanna says, just not enough hours in the day.... Here are a few for teasers.

The dugout before the game started.

Clay Van Hook on the right, not sure who the other player is. Joanna, do you know?

The small Eyes of Texas group at the beginning.

Jordan Danks, safe again!

It will be late tonight or tomorrow before I can post again. We will go to at least the first two games today. We missed an exciting game last night OU and OSU. Check out Joanna's notes.

Hook-em!!

3rd Post Today - Scavenger Hunt Sketches

Scroll down two posts for baseball! This is my sketching post today.

Working on Scavenger Hunt 41. There are over 120 posts there this week.

All my Sketches today are done with the ZIG Millennium pen in my Canson sketchbook. Probably about 15 - 20 minutes each, average. For new viewers, the sketches I do are quick and no erasing. I'm working toward seeing better and putting down the lines correctly the first time. Not so easy. :)

#5 chair and #6 toiletry. This is a chair in the hotel and my hair spray.

#7 Treat and #8 Purse I love Snickers and try to limit my intake. You can see I had a bite or two last night for dessert, with wine of course. The art bag is a substitute for my purse, I have sketched my purse and wallet a couple of times before, so something new.

#9 Clouds, #10 trees and #11 Jacket. The clouds are just dark and not interesting, rain, rain. The view includes local trees across the street from the hotel. The jacket is my favorite. A blue golf jacket from the Kaslo Golf Club in Kaslo, BC, Canada. Waterproof and great! Light weight, but warm.

You can tell we are having rain and haven't left the hotel except Gene went for the paper. We are wondering how the drainage is on the Ballpark at Bricktown for the games this afternoon. Hmmm.

Oil Painting, Copyright and much more - Katherine Tyrrell

You may have come here to see my artwork so here is an old favorite,

Garden Morning
Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches
A painting out of my imagination, I would like a garden like this.

But the real point of this post is that I have pointed to Katherine Tyrrell's blog, Making a Mark, before, but I feel she deserves another look. She is very much into research and information on pastels, colored pencil and art business in general. One of her recent blogs deals with copyright. Pop over and have a look and you will be amazed at the plethora of info and different categories she covers. You will be there a while so I'll see you tomorrow. :)

P.S. She is also a wonderful artist and very sharing with what she knows.

Sketches for Hunt, Baseball Day 1 for Big 12 Tourney

Art first, then baseball. :)

I sketched for Scavenger Hunt 41 last night

# 2 flag, I sketched the flag on Gene's bike and #3 summer hat, I sketched one of Gene's baseball hats. Can you tell it is orange with a white Longhorn? ZIG pen in the Canson sketchbook. Near 30 minutes.

What a day at Bricktown in Oklahoma City! I was a little disappointed with our seats, I ordered them months ago, well, as soon as I could. I asked for aisle seats in section 107 down the first base line. We got seats in 107 at on the side of section 107 more toward left field. I wanted them high up out of the sun. We are about four rows from the top and in the sun until after 1 p.m. No crowd today, so we didn't sit in our seats we sat in the shade in section 108. There won't be any problem until we play one of the Oklahoma teams. Tomorrow we play the Texas Aggies at 4:30 p.m. if the rain holds off or passes before the game (supposed to have storms about noon). So we can sit anywhere, I am sure. The 7 p.m. game is Nebraska and Kansas State, so no problem there.

The first game today at 10:00 a.m. was the Texas Aggies vs Nebraska. Sadly Nebraska won 5-3. We missed the top of the first. I kept score as best I could. The Aggies had 11 hits but couldn't get them together. They didn't have any 3 up, 3 down innings?? Nebraska only had 8 hits but 5 runs and one 3 up 3 down innings. Go figure. The Aggies used four pitchers and Nebraska two. Their game went a little overtime.

The Texas game was supposed to start at 1 p.m. but didn't start until about 2:05 p.m. You can see on the scoreboard (at the end of this post) that we went until 5:55 so imagine the last two games tonight. 40 minutes between games .. ending about midnight with luck. Whew.

Longhorns waiting to start.

Augie after meeting with umpires and Coach from the Wildcats.
Please check out this article in the Oklahoman about Coach Augie Garrido, pretty special guy.

The Longhorn seniors were presented with the trophy for winning the Championship of the Big 12.

Not easy to heft!

Hook-em Horns!

Every Longhorn had at least one hit. Nick Peoples had a great home run in the eighth with one out. Yeah.

Getting his congrats as he comes off the bases

Then Bradley Suttle , with Josh Prince #17 just behind him, hit one off a pitcher that had not given up a home run all year. Cool.

Thirty hits, wow. The news people said Texas coasted to the win. Well, in the 7th, Texas was ahead 13-4 with the winning run on first and had a third out. The 10 run rule was in effect. Then pow, in the 8th the Wildcats came up with 6 runs and Texas was only ahead by 3. Thankfully, Texas came back with 6 runs of their own. Whew. Final 19-10, Horns win. My scorebook pages were so full .. nowhere to write more pitchers. The Wildcats used 8 and the Longhorns used 4. In a rough count I had the Wildcats down for a total of 233 pitches and the Horns for 163 between all the pitchers. In the 8th, the pitcher pitched 7 pitches to Jordan Danks and walked him on the 8th. :) There were many of those.

Handshakes all around. Hook-em Horns!

As always check out Joanna's page for the nitty gritty and the official page for their news.

UT Baseball Honors Congratulations

Congratulations!!

The Longhorns made big news yesterday. Kyle Russell, Big 12 Player of the Year, Adrian Alaniz, Pitcher of the Year and Auggie Garrido, Co-coach of the Year. You can read about it on the official page. First baseman Chance Wheeless, third baseman Bradley Suttle, catcher Preston Clark joined Alaniz and Russell on the All-Big 12 First Team. The Longhorns' second-team selections include starting pitcher James Russell and relief pitcher Randy Boone.

So nice. The first game in the tournament for the Horns is today at 1:00 p.m. against Kansas State. The Horns won two out of three against them at home in March. You can watch streaming video on the Big 12 site. We are ready and will be there to cheer them on!

Sketch, Photos on the Road to OKC

I sketched in Austin yesterday while we were waiting for a chip in the windshield of the van to be repaired.

When I got home and looked at the Scavenger Hunt 41 list it had "water bottle" on it. Yeah, I sketched something that fit the list. This was done in about 30 minutes with my ZIG Millennium pen in the Canson sketchbook.

It is the start of our road trip. We arrived in Oklahoma City with no problems.

My first photo was this car for sale. How soon do you think it will sell. It was in Texas, so maybe some Longhorn fan will see it. Longhorn colors are burnt orange and white.

I like the way fly overs on freeways look. This is at I-35 and I-20 in Ft. Worth.

Our last stop in Texas (Denton) gasoline was $2.99.9, we crossed the Red River (see it is really red!) into Oklahoma

and the first gasoline we see is $3.35.9 and we did not fill up in Texas. Shame on us. This will be the first time we pay over $3.00 a gallon for gas. We skirted all around it last summer.

Hope you enjoy our trip. The Longhorn Baseball Team plays at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. Hook-em Horns!

Sketch for Scavenger Hunt, Pastel Painting and Baseball

I've been slack on posting, what can I say? I worked on the Scavenger Hunt 41 this evening. If I post this maybe it will keep me sketching.

#1 summer shoes, these are some new shoes. I don't wear sandals so I found these today, sort of rubber and mesh so should be a little cooler than sneakers. With the ZIG Millennium pen in the Canson sketchbook. About 25 minutes. As you know from reading my blog, I work in pen or some medium that cannot be erased. I am trying to "see" better the first look. Trying.

I have been working on a pastel painting of a scene coming into my old hometown. It is 16 x 20 inches on Pastelbord.

I have been working on it for a few days, a few minutes at a time. Not my favorite way to work. I like to get it done in a couple of sittings. I have developed it a bit further than this photo. I have been trying to lighten the mountains without loosing the green trees and the middle ground was too orange and I have adjusted the color there. I will post a new photo tomorrow, hopefully.

We have to go to Cypress Hills to pick up the paintings at the Bunkhouse and get ready for our trip. We leave on Tuesday for the Big Twelve Baseball tournament.

The Longhorns swept the Aggies and won the Texas Showdown and the Big Twelve Championship. You can read it all on the official page and find "the rest of the story" on Joanna's page. They play Kansas State on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Hook-em Horns!

A controversial call of Preston sliding in .. he was called out. My movie showed him safe. This is a photo of the paused movie taken on my iMac. Cool, but not too clear. Ha.

The seniors, it was senior day. We will miss them.. I don't know the names of the two assistants, sorry. 36 is Randy Boone, pitcher; 8 Chais Fuller, shortstop; 46 Joseph Krebs, pitcher; 2 Brett Lewis, catcher; 1 Nick Peoples, center field; 9 Clay Van Hook, infield; and 34 Chance Wheeless, first base. What a group!
